1.
I woke up in the gutter Blood dried on my brow I was a handsome cowpoke But look what I done now Tomorrow died, last night, when I went down They said I’d be a winner They said that I’d go far But I broke every promise When I found you at the bar Tomorrow died, last night, when I went down I shot you in the forehead Blood sprayed on the wall I told them you deserved it And the rest I can’t recall Tomorrow died last night Tomorrow died, oh last night Tomorrow died, last night, when I went down

about

Daniel Zelonky (AKA Low Res) composed, arranged and produced these soundtrack theme songs for imaginary films, vocalized by Gervis Myles.

Suite Crude Revue is a rotating cast of performers committed to an unshackled aesthetic. Produced, composed, and arranged by Daniel Zelonky, this single, again featuring singer Gervis Myles, presents songs for imagined films.

“Cowpoke Detox” might be termed “spaghetti jazz”. It’s a strange hybrid of spaghetti western style baritone guitar lines supporting jazz noir harmonies, creating a surreal backdrop for the tale of an unrepentant murderer, who feels regret only in terms of the consequences he’s facing. Zelonky’s guitars, bass, vibraphone, and organ, along with Jay Anderson on sax, Bryan Rogers on piano, and Dave Schoepke on drums, set a narcotic mood for the sociopathic narrative Myles delivers.

“Blue Ramen #1” is a lament, set to what might be termed a “Hollywood samba”, or perhaps "Back-alley Mancini"..... One imagines Los Angeles session players emulating samba for a commercial film, not an authentic Brazilian band. Andy Spadafora on saxophone, Eric Jacobsen on trumpet, Allen Russell on violin, John Paul Simons on bass, Bryan Rogers on piano, the very authentic and recently departed Cecilio Negron on percussion, and Zelonky on guitar and vibraphone, create a lush aural environment, culminating in a dreamy closing vamp with “whitebread” backing singers intoning the title behind Gervis Myles' impassioned vocal, amid a swirl of improvised trumpet, violin, and piano. This haunting, yet ironic song may well have found its way into the popular consciousness ... if the movie had actually existed!

This record breaks the mold of history-conscious record making, eschewing the slavish copying of past styles which has become so common, and exemplifying the label’s stated mission of “Reimagining a futuristic past” where “weird vistas of fresh possibilities unfold before us...” This bold work is available in a very limited edition on vinyl, as well as on all streaming platforms, and on Bandcamp as a download.
